A double from striker Loic Remy helped Getafe to a stunning 2-1 victory at fourth-placed Valencia, who ended the game with ten men.
The French striker gave Jose Bordalas’s side the lead in the 16th minute and four minutes after the break he doubled the advantage, slotting home from Jorge Molina’s assist.
Los Che – who began the game with Simone Zaza and Luciano Vietto up front – made a host of changes as they chased the game, with Spain international Rodrigo Moreno among those introduced.
The striker swiftly pulled one back for the hosts with a powerful finish but it was not to be for Marcelino’s side who had Dani Parejo sent-off late on for an off-the-ball elbow.
Valencia suffered only their third defeat at the Mestalla this campaign while Getafe climb to 8th and within three points of a European spot.
