Zinedine Zidane claims “football can be a mystery” as Real Madrid “didn’t deserve” to lose 1-0 to Espanyol on Tuesday.
Gerard Moreno’s injury-time volley stunned Madrid, who face falling further behind Liga leaders Barcelona, and Zidane struggled to explain the result.
“What we lacked? A bit of everything,” the Coach said after the game.
“We started the first half very well and had chances, but we failed to take them. We didn’t play our game or with substance in the second half.
“Football can be a mystery. You have to accept the bad moments. After five good results and good football, we couldn’t carry that on.
“We didn’t deserve this defeat, it hurts. Espanyol had very few chances, but it’s still a bad result.
“When you draw 0-0, these are things that happen. We always look for the win and ultimately we were unable to.
“It’s worse because we conceded a goal in the final minute. It’s difficult after the effort we’ve put in.
“Neymar? We have to wait. What we know is that he’s injured, and we’ll see if he’s going to need surgery or not.”
