LaLiga123: Leonesa up, Mirandes relegated

Cultural Leonesa were promoted to Spain’s second tier for the first time in 42 years after a 4-1 aggregate victory over Barcelona B.

Having won the first leg away from home 2-0, La Leonesa were already in firm control of the tie before Sunday’s return, although an early away goal from Jesus Alfaro gave the Catalans hope.

However, quick fire goals from Julen Colinas and Alex Gallar restored the comfort of Ruben de la Barrera’s side lead to bring them back to La Liga 123 for the first time since 1975.

The home side’s goalkeeper Jorge Palatsi was left unconscious late on following a heavy collision but his team held out for a memorable victory to spark wild celebrations.

Mirandes meanwhile have exited the second tier after a five-year stint with two games remaining after a 2-0 loss at Almeria on Saturday.

Elche, Mallorca and Alcorcon are the other sides still in the relegation zone with every side up to 12th-placed Rayo Vallecano still not mathematically safe.
