Sevilla boss Unai Emery has insisted that he is “happy” with Ciro Immobile, despite the striker being omitted for a second consecutive game.
The Borussia Dortmund loanee has failed to score in seven appearances for the Andalucians and remains absent for the trip to El Madrigal this weekend, but he has received assurances from his Coach that he is on the right path to a recall.
“I’m really fired up for this game because Villarreal have the same objectives as us, but we’re aware of the demands,” he said at a Press conference.
“We want the win to close the gap [to five points], which would be healthy.
“Although [the injured Ever] Banega is important to us, we have players who can compensate for the setback.
“We want to compete in La Liga and Europe against top teams. It’s a challenge, a motivation.
“We have a key opportunity to occupy an important position in the League.
“We’ll measure ourselves against opponents we want to be near in the table.
“There are things we want to experience but, for now, we’re just thinking about [Saturday].
“Villarreal are a very good team, very elaborate. They have moments in games when they’re in control.
“Both teams are looking to finish behind [Real] Madrid and Barcelona.
“[Villarreal Coach] Marcelino’s career has developed in a similar way to mine over the past 10 years.
“[On Ciro Immobile’s continued omission], I’m happy with him.
“He is integrated into the team and wants to be out there playing, but he’s remaining patient and his work [in training] will be rewarded.”
