Real Zaragoza staged the mother of all comebacks by overturning a 3-0 deficit against Girona on Sunday to reach the Segunda playoff final.
The Aragon side looked dead and buried from the first leg of their semi-final tie, but they will now vie with Las Palmas for a place in La Liga next season courtesy of 4-1 away-goal triumph at Montilivi.
Former Real Madrid youngster Willian Jose got the ball rolling with a brace inside the first 35 minutes, before another ex-Blanco Leandro Cabrera made it 3-0 on the cusp of half-time.
Jose Maria Fernandez then fired home Zaragoza’s all-important fourth, despite Aday pulling one back for Girona with 15 minutes left on the clock.
Zaragoza only secured a playoff place on the final day of the season and finished 21 points behind their semi-final opponents.
The first leg of the final will be played at La Romareda on Wednesday, with the return match scheduled four days later.
