Antonio Amaya has revealed he suffered a broken toe in October but wanted to continue playing for Rayo Vallecano.
Amaya confirmed to AS that he suffered the injury playing against Granada on October 17 but didn’t want the extended spell on the sidelines that would have resulted.
“I didn’t stop playing because I have the desire to go on,” the centre-back said.
“I’m lucky it’s on the left foot and I’ve had a lot of help from the doctor, who gives me dressings and anti-inflammatories and something to wear over my boot.
“If no one steps on my foot then hopefully all will go well and I’ll soon be fit.”
Amaya was left out of the team to play Real Madrid in Rayo’s last pre-internationals fixture and said it was more the choice of Paco Jemez than a problem with his foot.
“I train to play but the Coach decides. Maybe it was a surprise that I wasn’t in the starting XI and as a professional it bothers me I wasn’t in such a big game,” he admitted.
“There is more work to do because there is a lot of competition for my position and I have to earn my place.
“Celta Vigo [Rayo’s next opponents] are playing good football like a few years ago. It will be a nice game. To lose would be a blow and we can’t lose any more home points.”
