Nico Estevez reflected that Valencia’s Copa del Rey clash with Nastic yesterday was ‘like a final for us and we have won’.
The interim Coach oversaw a tight second leg 1-0 win for progression from the Round of 32 on Thursday evening, thanks to Paco Alcacer’s late first-half effort.
“It was like a final for us and we have won,” Estevez mused at full-time.
“We could have closed out the game earlier and that was the objective we set ourselves before the game and at half-time, but sometimes these situations occur. Although we have suffered a little, I believe that the game has been resolved well.
“There are teams from the Primera who come into this round like we have and are not there, and there are teams with humble budgets like Xativa, who did very well against Real Madrid – you have to respect the opponent.
“I hope to enjoy [my debut] later. I am a Coach and what I do is train. I do it with the same enthusiasm now as when I was coaching the kids.”
