Diego Simeone praised his Atletico Madrid players’ performance against Real Betis, citing their response even to his squad rotation.
Goals on Sunday night either end of the 90 from Oliver Torres and Gabi Fernandez sandwiched David Villa’s double and another effort from Diego Costa for a convincing result.
“I think we started very well, once we found that goal,” mused Simeone to reporters afterwards.
“After that goal we faded a bit in the game, we lost a bit of the intensity. After 30 minutes we started to play better.
“The second half the players took the field determined to put the game to bed and deserved what they got. The players were brilliant.
“What I take away from this game is that the other day Villa did not play and Raul got the goals, so we gave him 15 minutes.
“Here Oliver entered and played well, Adrian has come and done his job, Toby Alderweireld the other day…
“Whoever it is that goes in does well, I think of all this and I get a lot of joy from the game here.”
El Cholo commented on young midfield playmaker Oliver’s development.
“He did well at times, and others times he did not find his way in the game. We need much more from Oliver.
“He's young and all this serves to gain confidence, he is a player who at times the team needs, as a Coach I feel comfortable to use him and he respond well to the demands that we set.”
