Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone insists he is happy with the club’s pre-season preparations following the 1-0 friendly victory over Cagliari.
Academy player Borja Garces netted the decisive goal for Los Rojiblancos, who have had several absentees since returning to training due to World Cup commitments, and Simeone says he is trying to give all of his players more playing time.
“It was a good match and those that played 45 minutes did well, although there are things we need to improve upon, while I want the players to get more minutes under their belt for what is to come,” the Argentine told reporters.
“It’s been a different pre-season and we are trying to put the pieces together, but beyond that these guys give us great hope.
“We’ve only been able to work with the midfielders in the last few days and we are lacking offensively, but we will now prepare for the match against Inter, an opponent that will be very difficult.”
