Yoel Rodriguez believes that Celta Vigo’s strength this season comes from a group of players where none are guaranteed a starting berth.
The Galicians are working this term under the management of Luis Enrique and have begun the season with a win and two draws from three played.
For their current first-choice goalkeeper, the team is balanced in every way.
“In a team like this one, no-one is seen either as a starter or as a substitute,” explained Yoel to reporters today.
“I believe that we are all working the same and then it is down to the Coach to decide. I am among those who believe thait is is good that there are no set starters or substitutes, as that strengthens the group.”
The 25-year-old, who is back from a year on loan at Lugo and has started the season in good form, praised his goalkeeping colleagues Sergio Alvarez and Ruben Blanco.
“During the season there are better and there are worse times. Now I am in a good time, but I am sure that I can still improve my performances over the games.
“The intention is to reach my maximum level, like any player, to help the team so that everything works out.
“When you are next to two guys like Sergio and Ruben, who work so hard, it makes you grow. Here there are many healthy rivalries, it is very competitive, and that helps the team.”
Celta have shown promise in the first few rounds of League action.
“In preseason the team was always looking to play and have control of the game and dominate the opponent.
“I am not surprised by the team’s performances because people are working very well. But, the season has just started and the League is very long.”
