Alexis Rueno is eagerly counting down the hours until he and his Getafe teammates face Real Madrid at the weekend.
The Madrid minnows make the short journey into the centre of town on Sunday lunchtime for Week 21’s fixture, with centre-back Alexis licking his lips at the prospect of who he could face.
“It doesn’t matter if it is Cristiano, Benzema, Higuain or Ozil. They are all very good players and it motivates me a lot to have to face those players in attack,” the 27-year-old defender on loan from Sevilla commented today.
“I am looking forward to it, very much, I am happy and eager to help the team. And let’s see if we can be up there this season, fighting to qualify for Europe.
“In the first half of Madrid’s game at Valencia at the weekend, 0-5, you could see the potency of Real Madrid. They were given much space in attack and they did great harm in it.
“We are going to try to play a good game, be tight and try to play on the counter-attack and do something. We can produce a great performance.
“It is another game, but it is a great one. Playing at the Bernabeu is great. There is where the real players show up. Getafe has always shown up and this is going to be a nice game this weekend.
“Whatever the kick-off time [12pm local time], we do not care. The important thing is to play and to return home with the three points.”
Alexis saw defensive colleague David Abraham depart this week after just six months at the club.
“He has a strong personality and decided to leave. Nevertheless, it is a significant loss, but there are players who can cover his position.
“We have sufficient staff and the truth is that players who are playing less have to prove now that they deserve to be in the starting line-up.”
