Millonarios Head Coach Hernan Torres says it is an honour for his team to face Real Madrid in Wednesday’s Trofeo Santiago Bernabeu.
The game is being played in honour of Madrid legend Alfredo di Stefano, who played for both clubs, and Torres insists he cannot wait to lock horns with the Spanish champions.
“It is a great honour to be able to face Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu and I can’t wait to get there to see how it feels. Right now I do not know what to say.
“It is a good opportunity for us because they are a great team and have a top-class boss in Jose Mourinho,” he told a Press conference.
Di Stefano won three Colombian League titles and a Colombian cup with the Bogota team in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s before an international tour with Millonarios brought him to the attention of Real Madrid, where he went on to achieve legendary status.
Millonarios have a League match scheduled for the day of the Real Madrid clash but Torres explained that it will have to be played by the club’s second string.
“We are going to travel with our first-team squad because it is a condition of the contract, so hopefully everything will be in order.”
