Falcao on future and his role

Radamel Falcao has commented once more on his Atletico Madrid future and also on why he doesn’t necessarily like being praised as ‘the world’s best No 9’.

The Colombian has attracted a lot of attention in recent months for his form with Atleti and even heading into the weekend derby with Real Madrid, is facing speculation on his long-term future with the Rojiblancos.

“They are a great team, recent winners of the League and we both have the ambition of winning the match. It will be a very intense game,” began the striker to DirectTV this week, trying to look forward to Saturday’s derby, before again facing questions on his future.

“At Atletico Madrid I have a contract for three more years and will not think at this time about what is in my future. We are fighting for important things and valuable titles. I cannot concentrate less on this for anything in the world.

“I try to live my reality because I know that in football you have to prove yourself every day and this can change, I know what it has taken for me to reach a higher level in the game.”

One possible future destination is Millonarios in Colombia.

“I’ve never played in Colombia in the Primera Division and it is in my plans, but I do not know what will happen from here until I finish my career. It is true that I would like to have played for Millonarios.”

Falcao is one of the final 23 players nominated for this year’s Ballon d’Or award, but whilst he is pleased with this, he doesn’t quite agree with the praise that he is the world’s best No 9.

“I have been nominated, it is a good thing because it means you are doing things right. However, there has been a lot of talk that my features are like those of a ‘prototype No 9’, but that position has been eroded over time.

“I do not want to be pigeonholed as a No 9 that is defined by waiting in the penalty area to score. But yes, I do like scoring goals and goals keep me alive.”
