On-loan Getafe defender Alexis is confident his team can spring a surprise when they take on neighbours Real Madrid on Sunday night.
Luis Garcia Plaza’s men lost 2-1 at Alexis’ parent club Sevilla on the opening day, but the former Malaga and Valencia centre-back believes El Geta will make it very difficult for their more illustrious opponents at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
“We have been thinking about this match all week. Having lost the first game we want to open our account in front of our own fans and it would be great to beat Madrid.
“This is the right moment for us. The team is very good and we are confident,” the 27-year-old told AS.
“We must do almost everything well and it’s vital we stick together, plug any caps, and make it difficult so they are not comfortable. In addition, we will have to be positive in attack.”
Alexis went on to point out what he believed would be the main threat to the Getafe defence.
“Their counter-attacking, without a doubt,” he declared. “They are deadly on the counter-attack. That is their major strength and what makes them such difficult opponents to play against.
“When they go forward you need to be especially vigilant because in just three passes they can create a goalscoring opportunity. They are fast and have tremendous quality.”
Finally, Alexis spoke of Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, a fellow Andalusian and a player he knows personally.
“I have the pleasure of knowing Sergio and I can only say that it is a source of pride for Andalusia to have a footballer and a person like him.
