Girona star Cristhian Stuani not interested in January exit

Girona forward has confirmed his commitment to staying at the Segunda Division for the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

The Uruguayan international was reportedly the subject of a summer bid from Barcelona, following Girona's relegation from La Liga at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.

However he opted to remain at the Estadio Montilivi, and he has told an interview with the club's official website, reported in Mundo Deportivo, that he has no intention of leaving in January.

"I am not going to leave Girona (in January)."

"This is because I want to achieve promotion with the club this season."

Ernesto Valverde was widely rumoured to be considering a second bid for him in the winter market, despite the 33-year old signing a contract extension in July.

However his comments now look to have ended any potential of an early return to La Liga for the former Espanyol front man.

Jose Luis Marti's side have started the Segunda season well, and the Catalan side are currently in fifth in the table after 19 games played.
