Zinedine Zidane unconcerned by Luka Modric fitness concerns

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has dismissed fears that he is concerned by Luka Modric's lack of game time in recent weeks.

The Croatian international came on as a substitute in the 2-0 La Liga win at home to Espanyol, but he has not completed 90 minutes for the club since November 9.

However, Zidane stated in his post-match press conference that he was unconcerned by the 34-year old's conditioning ahead of a busy run of games.

"We always talk about players as they approach the end of their careers," he told reporters from Marca.

"However, Modric can handle a lot because of his physique."

"I have a lot of players, and must rotate for certain games."

"Luka does not need a rest, but he knows that he will have to skip a game from time to time."

Zidane also hinted he will start the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner in next weekend's clash with Valencia, in place of Casemiro.

The Brazilian international picked up his fourth booking of the seasons against Pablo Machin's side, and a caution against Los Che would rule him out of the December 18 El Clasico tie at the Camp Nou.
