Atletico Madrid fined crowd trouble against Barcelona

Atletico Madrid have been fined €602 for objects thrown onto the pitch during their recent meeting against Barcelona.

Cadena Cope outlines the details of the incident, with an umbrella among the items thrown onto the field of play during Sunday night’s encounter.

There is a separate charge facing Los Rojiblancos that fans chanted ‘Griezmann die’ towards the former forward, who joined their La Liga titles rivals this summer – and although a stadium closure is unlikely, it is a possibility.

The French forward returned to the Wanda Metropolitano for the first time on Sunday with Barcelona and as predicted he, received a frosty reception from the home fans.

Griezmann never enjoyed a particularly warm relationship with Atleti fans and the manner of his departure this summer has been criticised by people linked to the Madrid club.

He joined the Blaugrana in July when his €120m release clause was triggered, although a series of reports in the Spanish press say they have emails proving that the deal was concluded in March.

That meant he already had his heart set on a departure from Los Rojiblancos two months before the end of the season, and when they were still involved in the Champions League and La Liga title race last season.
