Barcelona: Ivan Rakitic open to Atletico Madrid, Sevilla move

Midfielder Ivan Rakitic wants to remain at Barcelona but has left the door open to joining Atletico Madrid or Sevilla.

The Croatian started in the recent victories over Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid alongside Sergio Busquets and Frenkie de Jong in a midfield trio.

Prior to those games, Rakitic had only started one game all campaign – an early-season defeat against Granada.

That particular three are said to offer the Blaugrana the balance of being able to break up the opposition plays before a quick transition to the attack.

Rakitic had only been used sparingly this campaign due to the prominence of Arthur Melo, while Arturo Vidal has also been more highly trusted in the position.

“You never know what can happen with my future, my idea is to continue in Barcelona, what I want above all is to play and I think I can give a lot still – and where better to play than Barcelona,” Rakitic said on Cadena Ser on Monday evening.

“Joining Atletico Madrid? We will see what will happen. It is a great team that has shown that it fights for all titles, and I also want to fight for all titles.

“Joining Sevilla? Playing in the Sánchez-Pizjuán is the most beautiful thing as a player. Would I go back? We'll see. If it is time to speak about it then I will.

“Everyone already knows that I will be delighted, I always said that if I play for an old shirt again it will be the one of Sevilla, I hope it can happen one day.

“Every year you see a better and stronger Sevilla and that fills me with pride and joy. My dream would be to wear the Sevilla shirt again.”

Rakitic has been linked with a move away from La Liga too with Italian duo Inter and Juventus both strongly rumoured – although the latter have subsequently stated they have not prioritised the position.

Manchester United are another club who have been linked to Rakitic, but he may be more likely to remain in Spain.
