Marcelo: Real Madrid were streetwise in Alaves win

Real Madrid defender Marcelo hailed his team mates for their gritty response to Alaves, to a 2-1 La Liga away win at the Estadio Mendizorroza.

Goals from fellow defenders Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal secured a win which lifts Real Madrid to the summit of the La Liga table.

However the Brazilian was particularly impressed by their response to difficult conditions in the Basque Country, and the challenge laid down by the Alaves players.

"We know that teams like Alaves will give everything against Real Madrid," he told an post-match interview with Movictar, reported in Marca.

"But we played well, despite the hits, and kicks, and rain and cold."

"It is always important to win these types of games."

"Because it is here where the league is won."

Marcelo also stated that he was confident the squad could push on from the result and use it as motivation in their title battle with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the coming weeks.

Those two face off at the Wanda Metropolitano tomorrow night, where a Barcelona win would put them back above Real Madrid, but anything less would see Real Madrid remain top.

Los Blancos host Espanyol in La Liga action next weekend, ahead of a trip to Valencia and an El Clasico with Barcelona at the Camp Nou on December 18.
