Barcelona progress to Champions League last 16 with Borussia Dortmund win

Barcelona have sealed their place in the Champions League knockout stages for a 16th successive season, following a 3-1 win at home to Borussia Dortmund.

First half goals from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi set the hosts on their way, with the Barca skipper in inspired form in the opening 45 minutes, before Antoine Griezmann sealed it after the break.

Suarez's opener was the best chance of a busy opening to the game, and he confidently slotted home from 15 yards out, after Messi had cushioned a loose ball into his path.

The Uruguayan international then turned provider for Messi three minutes later, latching onto Frenkie De Jong's pass to play a quick one-two with him, before the Argentinian clipped a fine finish over Dortmund keeper Roman Burki.

The hosts could have made the game safe just two minutes after the restart, but Burki stayed on his feet to make a brave stop from Griezmann.

However the French international was not to be denied his first Champions League goal for Barcelona, as Messi sent him through on 67 minutes, and this time he found the bottom corner with a powerful drive.

Dortmund did find a late goal, as England international Jadon Sancho scored a 20-yard consolation effort on 77 minutes.
