Real Madrid cruise to 5-0 win at home to Leganes

Real Madrid eased to a 5-0 La Liga win at home to city rivals Leganes in their midweek round of games.

Zinedine Zidane's side returned to second in the table, behind Barcleona, with a commanding win over the side from south Madrid, at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Goals form Rodrygo Goes and Toni Kroos inside the first ten minutes, essentially put the tie to bed, as Los Blancos flexed their muscles against their relegation threatened neighbours.

Both Rodrygo and Kroos benefited from assists from Karim Benzema, as the former French international took on deeper role for Zidane's side in the opening stages.

Despite Leganes' best efforts, the game was put beyond them just before the hour mark, as Eden Hazard was brought down for a penalty.

Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos dispatched the spot kick, to put the hosts in a 3-0 lead at half time.

With the home side looking to kill the game off after the break, Zidane's side took their foot off the gas in the second half, with Youssef En-Nesyri going close to scoring for Leganes.

Benzema made it 4-0 to the hosts on 70 minutes, converting from the spot after a foul on substitute Luka Modric.

However, the big story of the night was a first ever club goal for summer signing Luka Jovic in the closing minutes.

The Serbian international has endured a tough start to life at the club, but he stole in front of his marker, to head home in added time.
