My past Real Madrid success don’t matter now – Zidane

Zinedine Zidane admits his past successes as Real Madrid Coach will not be enough to justify his future at the club.

The comments come in the aftermath of Madrid’s shock weekend defeat to newly-promoted Real Mallorca and ahead of a crucial Champions League clash at Galatasaray.

Zidane’s side have collected just one point from their opening two Champions League group games – losing 3-0 at Paris Saint-Germain and being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Club Brugge.

There has been speculation on the Frenchman’s future at the helm with a series of underwhelming performances this season, even though Saturday was their first league defeat of the campaign.

“We all know the situation, we started badly in the Champions League but tomorrow we have a match to prove ourselves and that is what we will do,” Zidane told his pre-match press conference, as cited by Diario AS.

“I have been here for 18 years and the same thing happened to me as a player. I know where we are. The pressure is going to be there. The only thing is to prepare the game, we know the situation, but it won't change anything.

“There are going to be a lot of games. Until the end we are going to try and starting tomorrow, we have to win all three points in these games. The pressure, which is always said to result in changing the Coach…we will not discuss that.

“Football forgets what you have done, that is life. And for me it's the same, it's the present. The past is the past. Now it’s the present. I’m not going to tell you that what they say doesn’t bother me because it bothers me, but I can’t not let people give their opinions.

“The players are the first who want to win and do things well. And they know that they look at us in every game. What you have to do is try to change the situation.

“I also like difficult situations, you have to endure them with personality.”
