Midfielder Alvaro Medran joins Chicago Fire

MLS side Chicago Fire have completed the signing of Spanish midfielder Alvaro Medran, whose former clubs include Real Madrid and Valencia.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Rayo Vallecano from Valencia – and netted three goals across 21 appearances for the Vallecas-based side.

However, his Los Che contract expired this year and he has now penned a two-year contract with the United States club, who he will be registered for from January 2020 onwards.

Medran joined Valencia from Real Madrid in the summer of 2016 but made just 21 appearances before the club before being loaned out to Alaves in the 2017/18 campaign and then Rayo the following year.

The central midfielder had just featured for Real Madrid in La Liga twice as a substitute in the 2014/15 campaign, having played for their Castilla side for two years.

At international level, Medran has played for Spain's under-19 and under-21 sides with Chicago Fire confirming the transfer on Thursday.
