Martin Odegaard: Real Madrid are happy with my progress

Martin Odegaard has revealed how Real Madrid have congratulated him on his early performances on loan at Real Sociedad.

The Norway international has starred in the opening weeks of the campaign for La Real after joining them on a two-year loan deal from Los Blancos.

He has spent the last two seasons out on loan, at Heerenveen and Vitesse respectively, before joining the Basque club at the start of the season.

“I have contacts with Real Madrid, but La Real is the club that informs me how my development is going,” Odegaard told Eurosport in his native Norway, as cited by Cadena Copa.

“And Real Sociedad are the club that now shows me the way. Madrid send me messages, they have congratulated me and told me they are happy for my start of the season.”

It has been said that should the capital club wish to recall Odegaard from his loan spell at the Anoeta, they would have to pay the Basque club a €2m compensation package, although this has since been played down.

Odegaard has scored twice and provided an assist in his first eight league games for La Real and he has been tipped to be the long-term successor to one of Madrid’s current stars, most probably Luke Modric.
