Albert Celades to replace Marcelino at Valencia

Former Spain Under-21 boss Albert Celades is set to replace Marcelino Garcia Toral in the hotseat at Valencia, according to reports.

The former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Celta Vigo midfielder took charge of La Rojita in 2014 after Julen Lopetegui’s departure to Porto.

Well-respected local journalist Héctor Gómez claims that Los Che have decided to sack Marcelino – following a high-profile fallout with club president Peter Lim – and replace him with Celades.

However, he failed to lead the team to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, while they only qualified for the Euro U21 tournament in 2017 by the virtue of playoffs.

In the aftermath of losing the final of that tournament 1-0 to Germany, Furthermore, Celades was criticised for his “poor tactics” as Die Mannschaft “nullified the strengths of Celades’ men and played as a unit”, in contrast to La Rojita, who were “disorderly under pressure and without answers.”

Celades is currently without a role in football having most recently been number two to Lopetegui at Real Madrid at the start of last season.
