Nice touch by Sergio Ramos towards debutant Unai Núñez

Spain Captain Sergio Ramos asked coach Robert Moreno for substitution to allow for the debut of Unai Núñez, confirm Mundo Deportivo

A nice gesture happened towards the end of Spain's victory when Sergio Ramos came over to talk with coach Robert Moreno and ask him if he could be substituted to hand a debut to Athletic Bilbao youngster Núñez.

As important a night it was for the Spanisn captain to draw level with goalkeeping great Iker Casillas with 167 international caps, Sergio Ramos still had time to think of the bigger picture.

On the bench was one Unai Núnez and, with the game in a controlled situation, to his joy the defender – who was part of Spain's successful Under-21 team at this summer's European Championship – came off the bench to replace the record-equalling defender of Spanish football.

"It was a great gesture and it says alot about him (Ramos) that even on the pitch in the heat of the battle, he is aware of evrrything and most of all, his team mates," said coach Robert Moreno.

"I already had it in mind to bring him (Núñez) on if the situation was right, but it was Sergio who came up to me to personally to say if Unai could make his debut."

A great gesture on a special night for Spain and, in particular, for their two landmark defenders.
