Barça chasing number one – The future after Marc-André Ter Stegen

Barcelona hold promising goalkeeper future thanks to their talented La Masia academy.

The current crop of Barça goalkeepers hold a promising future, if reports by Mundo Deportivo are to be concerned.

Barcelona's current number one, German custodian Marc-André Ter Stegen, has been at the Camp Nou outfit since 2014, making 118 appearances to date.

His growing talented performances between the posts have propelled him to become one of the best goalkeepers in world football.

The 27-year-old is closer than ever to take the number one shirt for his country too after some shaky recent perfomances by Bayern Münich's Manuel Neuer.

However, the directors at Can Barça are already planning for a future without their German giant and as so many of their top goalkeepers in the past such as Andoni Zubizarreta and Victor Valdés, the time must come to pass the torch over to the next generation of goalkeeper.

Step forward 20-year-old Iñaki Peña, who at the moment is acting as the club's substitute goalkeeper with an injury to recent signing Neto.

The report suggets that Peña is a clear bet for the future and is already a member of the Spanish Under-21 team.

Two other notable and potential 'number 1' candidates on the horizon could be Arnau Tenas, who plays with the club's Under-19 team and Arnau Rafús from their B youth team and is a part of the Spanish Under-17 set up.

Curiously, one of Barça's most revered goalkeepers returned this summer with Victor Valdés returning to coach the club's A youth team.

Valdés aiming to guide the future crop of talent by being the succesful link to the past through demonstrating the heritage of the clubs famous identity and successful DNA blueprint.

The rich history of the dream factory of talent that is La Masia continues – on the hunt for their new number one.
