Romania vs Spain Preview: Spain aim for a high five

Spain take on Romania tonight (19:45 UK time) in matchday five of La Roja's Euro 2020 qualification campaign.

Coach Robert Moreno will be looking to collect maximum points from their trip to Bucharest at the 55,000 plus Arena Națională stadium.

Spain are on a formidable streak this calendar year – winning all four games from their Group F qualifying group and are still on course to earn the total 30 points possible.

Last time out in the Santiago Bernabéu, Spain ran out comfortable winners by a score line of 3-0 courtesy of two penalties by Sergio Ramos and Álvaro Morata and a goal by Mikel Oyarzabal.

Both Spain’s Captain Ramos and Morata are the countries leading goal scorers in the group campaign with three goals apiece to date.

La Roja have a fully fit squad to choose from for this upcoming tie with competition for places hotter than ever to make a breakthrough into their talented starting eleven.

In terms of their opposition, Romania come into tonight’s contest on the back of a triumph away against Malta (0-4) and currently have seven points to their name.

Manager Cosmin Contra, who knows La Liga very well from his days with the famous Alavés team and spells with Atlético Madrid and Getafe, will be aiming to give La Roja a serious test.

Romania’s main threats could come in the shape of Genk midfielder Ianis Hagi, son of legendary midfielder Gheorghe Hagi, and the youngster has five international caps.

Forward Florin Andone could also pose a danger to the Spanish backline. The forward recently switched from the English Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion to link up with fellow striker Radamel Falcao at Turkish outfit Galatasaray. Andone has 22 caps for his country with one goal to his name.

La Roja have never previously won on Romanian soil. However, they aim to make it 15 points from 15 with their fifth consecutive Euro 2020 qualifying victory come close of play tonight – ensuring Spain give themselves their very own high five.
