Barcelona’s Ansu Fati father: Real Madrid offered more money

The father of Barcelona debutant Ansu Fati has revealed they were offered much more to sign for Real Madrid earlier in his career.

The 16-year-old moved to Spain from his native Guinea-Bissau as a six-year-old and his talent was initially spotted by Sevilla, who incorporated him into their youth team.

However, he later moved to Barca’s La Masia academy ahead of another proposal from Madrid, who the father has revealed offered more money for his services.

“Madrid offered a lot of money, but Albert Puig came and told me that they were Barça and that they had a project,” Bori Fati told Cadena Cope, as cited by Marca.

“That in a few years they saw his place at the club. We know he works very hard but we couldn't imagine that he would be playing with these stars.

“It's the happiest day of my life. When Ansu told me he was summoned by Valverde, I started crying and my wife did too. When he entered the pitch we said 'it can't be' – we could not believe it.

“When he was 6 or 7 years old, he came to Spain, I came before and did not know that he played football. They told me that I did not know how good my son was, he was fantastic.

“Ansu says he wants to play in the Spanish team.”

Fati appeared as a substitute in Sunday’s 5-2 victory over Real Betis.
