Philippe Coutinho joins Bayern Munich from Barcelona

Bayern Munich have completed the season-long loan signing of Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho, it has been confirmed.

The Brazil international will join the German champions on a temporary arrangement with an €8.5m loan fee, while they will also have a non-compulsory purchase option of €120m throughout the agreement.

The former Liverpool star had cut a frustrated figure for the Catalan club last season, finding starting opportunities limited at the club and struggling to find consistent form.

The Brazilian only joined the Camp Nou in January 2018 for a deal worth up to €160m but the Blaugrana are now cutting their losses on the player.

Paris Saint-Germain were also said to be an admirer of the former Inter and Liverpool man but again their financial situation is precarious and may need to make sales before considering big-money moves.

With the English transfer window closed – both Arsenal and Tottenham had also been linked with a move – that gave Bayern a free run at the player, although there is no compulsory purchase option.
