Nelson Semedo: It’s important Barcelona want me to stay

Nelson Semedo rejected several offers in favour of staying at Barcelona this summer and has said: “It is important to feel loved.”

Portugal international Semedo has started less than half (36) La Liga matches since his arrival at the Camp Nou in the summer of 2017 and had been said to be open to an exit from the Camp Nou.

Semedo joined in a €35m deal from Benfica and whilst he is the only natural right-back in Ernesto Valverde’s first-team squad, the versatile Sergi Roberto has often been preferred to him.

“For me it is very important to know that there are people there (at Barcelona) who love me, which in general is very good,” Semedo is cited as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.

“But knowing that they love you where you are – your Coach, your team, your president – and they want you to stay, that has been very important for me.”

Moussa Wague, the Senegalese full-back signed last summer, has been promoted to the first-team squad to provide further competition in the position.
