Borja Mayoral ‘doesn’t know Real Madrid future’ after Levante move

Borja Mayoral admits he does not know his long-term future after joining Levante on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid.

The 22-year-old had been on loan with the Valencia-based side but he netted just three goals across 29 appearances in La Liga last campaign.

Levante have been keen on a deal but it had appeared certain he would join Real Sociedad, but they were said to prefer a permanent deal but were not prepared to pay his €15m asking price.

“It has not been complicated to return here,” Mayoral explained, as cited by Marca.

“My future? In the end, the decision does not depend exclusively on me, I belong to Real Madrid. There has been talk of joining Real Sociedad and other teams, but Quico and my environment know that my desire was to return here to Levante.

“What made me want to come back here? Many things. This coaching staff makes me improve a lot. I was used to playing another style, but I was able to adapt to the style of Levante. I'm glad I can come back.

“After this season? These topics are spoken by my representative. I guess they will have had conversations about me, but honestly, I only worry about having a good season here.”

Mayoral has previously spent a season on loan at German club Wolfsburg but has scored a total of just eight league goals across the past three campaigns.

The player appears to have no long-term future in Madrid but will return to the club in 2020.
