Valencia reject Wolves approach for Mouctar Diakhaby

Valencia have rejected offers of €40m from Wolverhampton Wanderers and an unnamed English club for defender Mouctar Diakhaby, say reports.

Valencia-based Levante EMF claim the Midlands club have made an approach for the central defender alongside another top-flight club in England.

Diakhaby signed for Los Che a year ago in a €15m deal from Lyon and impressed in his debut season, making 38 appearances across all competitions.

The defender, who is of Guinean descent, has represented France nine times at Under-21 level and had previously been a part of Lyon’s first-team squad since September 2016.

The 22-year-old’s contract at the Mestalla runs through until the summer of 2023 and whilst Valencia would not rule out a sale in its entirety, it may be unlikely that bids will go significantly higher than the €40m mark.

Diakhaby netted three times for Marcelino Garcia Toral’s side last season, and helped them to the Copa del Rey trophy, the semi-finals of the Europa League and qualification to the Champions League for the next campaign.
