Lazio to sign Malaga midfielder Jony Rodriguez

Lazio are on the verge of completing the signing of Malaga midfielder Jony Rodriguez with the player already in Rome, report Marca.

The Italian capital club  have beaten competition from Spanish and English clubs to land the midfielder, who was subject of much interest this summer.

The 27-year-old impressed on a season-long loan stint at Alaves, where he netted five goals across 36 La Liga appearances in an impressive campaign for the Basque club.

The left-sided midfielder is now out of contract at Malaga and he does not want to play Segunda Division football in 2019-20, following their promotion play-off defeat to Deportivo La Coruna.

Jony still has one season remaining on his contract with the Andalusian club but a strange clause is said to exist in his contract which allows him to join any club playing in their top division on a loan deal.

That clause appears to have been inserted into his contract when Malaga signed the player from Sporting Gijon in 2016, two years before the club were then subsequently relegated to the second tier.

The report adds that ‘Valencia, Sevilla, Villarreal, some English teams and Serie A clubs’ were also interested in the player, but he is now set for Lazio.

Inzaghi is preparing himself for some big money moves for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Joaquin Correa and Jordan Lukaku, and could need cover for a number of positions for next season.
