Sevilla have completed the signing of Marseille midfielder Lucas Ocampos in a €13m deal, the club have confirmed.
The 24-year-old netted four goals in 34 appearances for the French club but they have now allowed the Argentinian to join the Andalusian club on a five-year deal.
The former River Plate midfielder is entering the final year of his contract at Marseille and his midfield versatility was said to be key to Sevilla’s interest.
The pressing issue of the player’s contract was at the heart of Marseille’s interest in listening to offers this summer and a move to Los Rojiblancos has now come to fruition.
Ocampos initially joined Marseille on a loan deal from fellow Ligue 1 club Monaco in January 2015 before penning a permanent contract this summer.
He has since scored 27 goals in 129 first-team appearances for Marseille but spent the 2016-17 in Italy across two loan spells at both Genoa and Milan respectively – where he made 26 appearances in Serie A.
Ocampos featured in last year’s Europa League final defeat for Marseille against Atletico Madrid.
He has joined the growing list of signings at Sevilla which includes Diego Carlos, Joan Jordan, Mannus Dabbur, Jules Kounde and Luuk de Jong, with several more set to follow.
