Atletico Madrid and Arsenal eye RB Leipzig defender Lukas Klostermann

Atletico Madrid have set their sights on RB Leipzig defender and German youth international Lukas Klostermann, say reports.

Diario AS cite a report from reputable German publication Bild which claims Los Rojiblancos are monitoring the defender, who starred in this summer’s European Under-21 Championships.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a strong tournament and was reportedly heavily monitored by Atleti scouts throughout the competition in Italy.

The right-back would theoretically be a replacement for the departed Juanfran Torres in Diego Simeone’s side and he has appeared in 52 Bundesliga matches across the past two campaigns.

Having been capped twice by the German national team this year, Klostermann is growing in demand and Arsenal are also said to be monitoring his situation.

Atleti are also not ruling out a future move for the Gunners’ right full-back Hector Bellerin, who may be open to the idea of returning to Spain having began his youth career at Barcelona.

Klostermann joined RB Leipzig in 2014 from VFL Bochum and has been involved in their promotion to the top tier and unprecedented rise in German football.
