Rayo Vallecano renew stadium lease for 20 years

Rayo Vallecano have renewed their lease of their Campo de Futbol del Vallecas by a further 20 years, according to Marca.

The club have been long-term tenants at the ground – located in their Madrid barrio of the same name – and had been renting from the Comunidad de Madrid, but their former deal had expired on 30 June.

However, they have now struck a new deal in which the club will pay €81k per year while they are responsible for the maintenance , conservation and repair of the stadium.

The club were relegated from the top-flight last season and will start their La Liga 123 campaign in August, when it is hoped the club will have resolved the issue.

The Federation of Peñas del Rayo Vallecano have called for a protest against the board of directors on Wednesday, July 3 to protest against the situation.

Campo de Futbol de Vallecas, previously temporarily called Estadio Teresa Rivero, has a capacity of 14,708 seats and was opened in 1976.

In 2011 the stadium was the last in Spain to remove perimeter fences separating the pitch from the stands.
