Levante break transfer record for Valencia’s Ruben Vezo

Levante have broken their transfer record to land Valencia defender Ruben Vezo in a €6m deal, it has been confirmed.

Last week, Diario AS reported on the agreement that claimed €5m would be paid upfront with a further €1m in add-ons with Marca now outlining how a deal has been done.

The Portugal defender moved to the Mestalla on a loan deal in January 2019 and impressed across 15 La Liga starts, in which he netted two goals.

The former Portugal Under-21 international joined Los Che in the January of 2014 from Vitoria Setubal in a deal worth €1.6m and started 41 La Liga games for the clubs.

Vezo spent a season on loan at Andalusian club Granada in the 2016/17 campaign but was unable to prevent the club from their relegation.

He was highly rated by Levante boss Paco Lopez and indeed by the club’s fans, who could be heard chanting ‘Vezo stay’ in the closing weeks of the campaign.

His contract at Valencia had been due to expire in the summer of 2020.
