Sevilla Atletico striker Joao Maleck detained in Mexico over deaths

Sevilla Atletico striker Joao Maleck has been detained in his native Mexico initially for six months following a fatal car accident.

On Tuesday, Mucho Deporte reported how the footballer was found with alcohol in his bloodstream following the incident and he will now be trialled after being charged with homicide in an incident which left two people dead.

Diario AS now follow up on these reports that the player must remain in his home country under "justified preventive detention", while he was found with alcohol in his bloodsteam.

The Mexican youth international striker joined the Andalusian club in January on a loan deal with an option to buy, it has been confirmed.

The 20-year-old joined Porto B on loan from Santos Laguna in 2017 but switched to Sevilla Atletico in January with the Andalusian club holding an option to buy.

“They had followed me before Porto and, in fact, we went to Spain earlier than Portugal,” Maleck explained on ESPN digital, in quotes dated back to September 2018.

“I always liked the club because it is one of the biggest in Spain and I am delighted to have arrived at the club.”
