Sevilla to beat Arsenal to Eibar midfielder Joan Jordan

Sevilla lead the race to sign Eibar midfielder Joan Jordan this summer despite interest from Arsenal, according to reports.

Diario AS say that the Andalusian club have made an opening offer of €10m but they may need to up this to match the player’s €15m release clause at the Basque club.

Jordan’s former club Espanyol are also said to be entitled to 20% of any fee paid for the central midfielder, meaning Eibar are likely to hold out for his clause.

Eibar signed Jordan from Espanyol in the summer of 2017 and his contract at Ipurua runs through until 2020, with his release clause set at a reported €15m.

The 24-year-old has netted 10 La Liga goals across two seasons at Ipurua and has made 75 first-team appearances but now appears set to leave this summer.

Jordan has emerged as one of the most in-demand midfielders in Spain’s topflight with his release clause viewed to be affordable by other sides.

It is now claimed that the Spaniard will be one of the first signings by Sevilla’s returning sporting director Monchi.
