Coach Eusebio Sacristan leaves relegated Girona

Girona have confirmed that Coach Eusebio Sacristan has departed the club following their relegation from La Liga.

Nine defeats from their final ten La Liga games saw the end of the Catalan club’s two-year stay in Spain’s top flight, with relegation confirmed via a defeat at Alaves on Saturday night.

Eusebio – who made over 200 appearances for Barcelona as a player – moved to Montilivi in June 2018 but won just 10 of his 44 matches at the helm.

The 55-year-old had previously been in charge at Real Sociedad and spent four years at Barcelona B, but has now cut short his two-year contract at the Catalan side.

“Eusebio Sacristan will not lead the first team of Girona FC next season,” a Girona statement confirmed.

“The Coach has made his position available to the club and has waived the year of contract he had signed.”

Girona were relegated from the top-flight alongside Rayo Vallecano and Huesca having recorded a top-half finish last season under the guidance of former boss Pablo Machin.
