Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin to extend Leganes loan

Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is set to extend his stay on loan at Leganes into next season, according to Marca.

The Ukrainian has made just four La Liga appearances for the southern Madrid-based club this campaign, but it is thought he could be afforded more opportunities next season.

He has failed to dislodge the club’s first choice goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar at Butarque this season but there are reporters the long-term number one could yet leave the club this summer.

Lunin joined Los Blancos last summer in an €8m deal from Zorya but was never likely to be involved in first-team action following the arrival of Thibaut Courtois to compete with Keylor Navas and Luca Zidane.

He is said to have a strong working relationship with Lega goalkeeping coach Joseba Ituarte and would prefer to fight for an attainable first-team place.

Leganes boss Mauricio Pellegrino is said to be a big fan of the Ukrainian goalkeeper and ideally would promote him into the club’s first choice shot-stopper for next season in such a scenario.
