Valencia cruise into Europa League semi-finals

Valencia cruised into the semi-finals of the Europa League with a 5-1 aggregate victory over Spanish rivals Villarreal.

Los Che’s progress means that La Liga has now had a semi-finalist in each of the last six editions of the competition, and they will face Arsenal at the semi-final stage.

Leading 3-1 from the first leg, Toni Lato gave Marcelino’s side the lead in the first half at the Mestalla before captain Dani Parejo ended the tie as a contest nine minutes after the break.

Valencia last won the competition in 2004, when it was then named the UEFA Cup, while their last four clash against the Gunners is a repeat of the 1980 Cup Winners Cup final.
