Levante’s Tono Garcia ‘has lived a nightmare

Levante defender Tono Garcia has ‘lived a nightmare’ having been imprisoned for three weeks on suspicion of extortion and threats.

The 29-year-old was released on bail on Friday and will return to work with the club while the investigation continues.

“I want to thank all those who have supported me – the club, the president and the Coach,” Tono said in a statement, released via the club.

“I have received their full support and I want to tell them that this will be repaid when the situation becomes clear and when I have been proven innocent.

“I have lived a nightmare with this situation, I had a happy and normal life to being in prison without understanding why, my freedom has been removed due to a suspicion.

“I might have made an error but that was only in trusting the wrong people and not protecting myself enough against them.

“That is not to say that I am part of a criminal organisation or that I am involved in money laundering, that is totally false and I will prove that it is false.”
