Manchester City have made Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez ‘their number one transfer target’ for the next summer window, say reports.
The Spain international has spent the entirety of his professional career at Los Rojiblancos, scoring 31 goals across 232 first-team appearances.
City believe Saul could be the long-term successor to Fernandinho in their central midfield, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
However, indications suggest the 24-year-old’s lengthy contract – which is due to run for a further seven years until 2026 – includes a massive €150m release clause.
Saul, who was won 15 caps for the Spanish national team, is one of the pillars of the current Atleti team and he has won five trophies with the club.
