Girona deny talk of Cristhian Stuani to Barcelona

Girona club president Delfi Geli has moved to deny reports his club are negotiating the sale of star striker Cristhian Stuani to Barcelona.

The 32-year-old is La Liga’s third highest scorer this season, netting 12 goals in 15 starts – behind only Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, both of Barca.

Stuani’s release clause at Estadi Montilivi stands at €15m and Marca, Diario AS and Diario Sport all say the Blaugrana are considering activating the deal.

“There is nothing to say about this,” Geli told Cadena Ser on Wednesday.

“Stuani is our players, he is very happy here and we are very happy to have him here, there are no other updates.

“This story does not have basis in fact, I cannot say anything else.”

The experienced Uruguayan only joined the Catalan club in the summer of 2017 from Middlesbrough but has been a huge hit in Spain, netting 33 times in just 47 league starts.

Munir El Haddadi left the Camp Nou to join Sevilla in a €1m deal earlier this month, leaving Suarez as the only recognised senior striker at the club.

Barca are said to have rejected the opportunity to sign Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata while Fernando Llorente now appears more likely to stay at Tottenham.
