Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari slams Huesca ‘wind’

Santiago Solari slammed the ‘windy’ conditions during Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Huesca as they ‘made the game ugly’.

“You need character in games like these, and the players had it today,” the Coach said after Sunday’s match, won by a Gareth Bale golazo.

“We scored when we needed to and knew how to defend. It was a windy game and not very nice to watch.

“It’s difficult to play games like these. There was lots of atmosphere and wind, but the team showed their character.

“We’re less used to games like these, but you have to compete like that. We’ll have time to get back to playing like we did in the first half against Valencia. That’s football.

“The wind affected both teams and made the game ugly. The players will tell you that the match was less precise because of that.

“The wind also had an impact on Huesca, who left gaps behind. We were able to clinch the result with breaks from Bale and Benzema.

“It wasn’t a game to remember but if we want to compete for LaLiga, these games have to be won.

“Bale’s goal was worth three points, although I’d have been just as happy if anyone else scored.

“He worked a lot, like the rest of the team and those who came on in the second half. As for Courtois keeping a clean sheet, it’s important when you don’t score three or four goals.

“Huesca played bravely, pressing and taking risks. They didn’t have any very clear chances, but they did press from corners and with their fans at the end.

“I like Leagues that are tight. They are beautiful for the fans. It’s been a while since we saw one as close as this.”
