Machin: No Sevilla overconfidence

Pablo Machin has warned his Sevilla players not to be overconfident when they face Ujpest in a second-leg Europa League tie on Thursday.

The Andalusians are clear favourites going into the game in Budapest after a convincing 4-0 victory in the first leg at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

However, Machin is not taking the Hungarians lightly and has told his players to do the same if they are to ensure progression to the next stage without any alarms.

“We know we are going there with a favourable scoreline from the first game, but we’ve seen circumstances in football where a team that is overconfident has suffered,” he told a Press conference.

“We must take this game seriously, knowing that the first leg went in our favour after we scored an early goal and they had a player sent off. This tie is still not resolved.

“I don’t know much about the history of Ujpest as a club, but I know the way they play as I saw their games in the previous round and we’ve also watched some of their matches from last season.

“The first leg was an example of how to play, which we did responsibly, because Sevilla must enter into the group stages, which is the minimum for a club of this level.

“We know it will be difficult to win the competition, yet we must take things step-by-step, get through the rounds then reach a hypothetical final, because that is our objective,” he maintained.
