Diego Simeone admits he ‘expected more’ from Atletico Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on Sunday but confirms ‘I’m staying’ next season.
Simeone’s side were forced to settle for a point after Antonio Griezmann cancelled out Cristiano Ronaldo’s opener, but the disappointment was short-lived as the Argentine pledged his commitment to the club.
“I expected more,” the Coach said after the game.
“We were able to win, but we could’ve lost too. We had chances to win, them too. We’re still going for the League and I hope we reach the last three games still in with a chance.
“Madrid? They’re the favourites to win the Champions League. They have a light switched on in that competition.
“This is a big club and we’re growing. I’m proud of the level this club have been at for the past decade, how we’ve competed against two superpowers like Madrid and Barcelona and how we’ve kept competing.
“I’m working so that Griezmann and Oblak keep going and get even better. I put on Gabi because I needed legs in midfield.
“Players like Ronaldo, Gabi and Godin? has an attitude and they respond, they’re to be admired.
“The only phase of play I saw clearly is when they flagged Vitolo offside, even though he wasn’t. My future? I’m staying with Atletico.”
