Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Iago Herrerin has extended his contract at the club until June 2021 with a €50m release clause attached.
The Basque giants confirmed the news on Wednesday morning, coming amid growing speculation regarding first-choice goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The 29-year-old has made 79 first-team appearances at San Mames since his move to the club in 2013, first as backup to Gorka Iraizoz and now to Spain international Kepa.
Herrerin has started each of the last four matches for Jose Angel Ziganda’s side – conceding just once – as Kepa continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid this year.
